This is Roberta Marquez and I think she is a really beautiful dancer. Why do i say that? Because i saw her in action.
I went to watch the Royal Ballet's production of Swan lake, and i went the night that Roberta was dancing. She was a little off her leg, but nonetheless breathtaking because i knew that no matter how much she was off her leg, I would never ever even reach the standard of what would be considered "off" to her. Her standard and technical competency was amazing, so amazing, that i daren't even say anything to criticise her technique. The way she floated across the stage made her really look like a swan. She landed each step with grace and managed to save herself elegantly everytime she made a mistake so that the audience would think that it was intentional.
Her partner, Ivan (something), was just as spontaneous. She couldn't hold the balance like she was supposed to and she was teetering back and forth en pointe. So she put her weight forward and her partner immediately supported her into a penchee en pointe instead. To illustrate my balletic terms.... She was supposed to balance like this:
In an arabesque position, for about... ten to twenty seconds en pointe....
But she couldn't because you know, we all have off days. And maybe today was just like her off day.. so she's forgiven. I mean, how many of us can actually go up on our toes, lift the leg to 90 degrees, and stay there for twenty seconds, and still manage to look pretty anyway?
So... as i was saying... she couldn't do this... so she leaned forward and did a.....
Yes, and so..... She couldn't turn on her left leg, because maybe it was not a very good day for the foot, so she did the whole solo to the left instead, on the spot! Because she knew she would make everything go off to the right, so she took a gamble and did left. The result? A cheering audience and a happy ballerina.
The way she felt at that moment must have been one of the happiest in her career.
Anyway... here are some more pictures of her and the Ivan guy.
His name is Ivan Putrov (just found out). And he's a really good dancer too! But i still like Manuel Legris the Best.
If only the Paris Opera Ballet would come to S'pore to dance! then i would be the first in line to buy tickets. I would make all the people who didn't appreciate ballet to go. because they are so good, they can make someone who hates it love it in the end. They are like, the BEST IN THE WORLD! Remember the POB stands for Paris Opera Ballet. I will put up some pictures of them too. Lovely! ^^ These are them in Cinderella
The PARIS OPERA BALLET
Aurelie Dupont These 3 are of Aurelie Dupont, my all time fave POB dancer! She's really good... Wait... lemme find some more pics of her.
